When designing a new kitchen, why not maximise your space and include a banquette. Maybe you have a window that limits the installation of cabinetry. With a little imagination and not much expense you can make that spot sing. Your children can do homework while you cook, a friend can share a glass of wine in the afternoon sun, or why not have that all important intimate dinner with your significant other.
Have some fun with colour and change your cushions depending on the season. Mix and match your fabrics to include stripes and florals. Generous back cushions are vital on bench seats. Bring in a different style of freestanding chair that compliments the banquette.
Button-tuffeted seat and back cushions give a lovely sophistication and French feel to the banquette. Cushions with tuffets have buttons that are pulled down into the puffy part of the cushion, giving the cushion extra dimension.
Freestanding tables are also a clever idea. If you need more space when entertaining you can move the table out and create more seating. If you don’t have the space for a permanent dining table replace it with a couple of side tables for candles and books. Storage under the bench seats is a must, use it wisely and you will be delighted.
