Colour is just as important as the architecture when trying to capture the right mood for a room. The simplicity of this reading room designed by Jay Jeffers is deceptive. The burnt orange paint colour used on the back of the bookshelves links beautifully with the curtain fabric and also picks out the gentle orange floral on the inviting high back reading chairs.
I wonder if the polished mahogany pedestal table was the starting point for this room plan. If so, it is a perfect heirloom to display the over scaled pottery that pops against the blue of the next door sitting room. The books live meaningfully together and showcase all the other classical and modernist pieces that appear to have been collected over time.
